With so many people on the planet, it’s strange we’re more at risk from obesity than starvation

It got me thinking about life’s asymmetries, as it relates to passing on to the next generation. Seems your family legacy is just part of what you can pass on to your children

With the discovery of DNA and genomic sequencing, it appeared that our biology was predetermined and immutable

Turns out genetics account for 25%-30% of our health outcomes, the rest appears governed by ‘epigenetics’

In 2018, Calico Life Sciences (owned by Google), in conjunction with AncestryDNA, published findings from the 439 million family trees they surveyed, and revealed that only in 10% of cases is longevity linked to family genetic heritage. Means that a large part of our destiny is in our own hands

Seems everything around us is part of epigenetics, which means that, if we eat poorly, breathe polluted air, stress daily, live a sedentary life, etc, all these things can activate gene expressions

Apparently, negatively influencing our genes with our lifestyle choices, good and bad, can influence the health of those who come after us

Your lifestyles might set the stage for your children…

You also control the percentage of value created in your lifetime that you pass to your children when you die. Without planning, it’s just 60%, after allowances!

Try this: gather your sons, daughters, and others together. Be honest. Tell them: ‘One day, children, 60% of everything your Mother and I created in our lifetimes is going to be yours. The other 40% is going to the taxman. We can’t be arsed to plan.
