Familiarity with the family legacy planning process, gained over 35+ years, says there’s often a client tendency to seek answers and happiness in possessions and achievements and, sometimes, more of a struggle to look inwards
The ancients had an allegory that’s still right on message today
A group of wisemen (they were both wise, and men, and could be described thus back then!) gathered to decide where to hide the human soul, so that it could not be easily found. Much debate and deliberation eventually produced 3 possibilities
Hiding it in the depths of the ocean: one suggested hide it at the bottom of the deepest ocean, but that was countered by the observation that humans will eventually explore and reach those depths..
Burying it deep within the earth: another proposed concealing it deep underground but, again, it was countered that humans will eventually dig and uncover it..
Placing it on the highest mountain: a third suggestion, hiding it on the loftiest peak, was dismissed on grounds that humans will eventually climb even the tallest of mountains..
Debate raged long into the feast, until the wisest among them offered a profound solution – hide the soul within humans themselves, for it is the last place they will think to look.!
Violent agreement broke out, acknowledging that people often search externally for meaning and purpose, while neglecting introspection, and self-awareness
Maybe, just maybe, true wisdom and fulfilment lie within oneself.?
